GIS

The Falmouth Project uses several technologies under the hood including a powerful GIS infrastructure to deliver its map-based information. If you are an advanced user, you can leverage the same data used in this site.

Shape Files

Currently, we publish this data using shape files, which you can import into ArcGIS, GeoServer, or other software.

The data are in Falmouth-Shapes.zip. Inside that are these shape files:

F_Districts.shp
This defines the neighborhood districts. On this site, these are the colored overlays on the home page map.
F_StructPointsWM_joined.shp
This defines the location of the structures.
F_Polygons2.shp
This is a footprint of the structures. This isn't used on the site, and it may not be up-to-date.

ArcGIS

To use these files in ArcGIS, follow these steps:

  1. Download the shape file;
  2. Unzip it and make a note of where you put the files;
  3. In ArcGIS, select File > Add Data > Add Data...;
  4. Navigate to the downloaded files; you may need to click Connect to Folder and specify where the files are;
  5. Find the SHP file and select it; and
  6. The data should be loaded into the map file as a new layer.
